Field Assets is the ultimate field data collection application for the iPhone and iPod touch. The application enables the user to record the location of assets and to enter information on attributes of assets in the field. The user also has the option of taking geo referenced photos and recording voice memos of assets and their attributes. Data collected can be wirelessly sent from the field in real time or downloaded when back in the office.
Field Assets provides users with a versatile asset management tool. The application enables data collection, mapping, voice recording and photography, all to be carried out using the one device. Integral part of our company!!
We started using this app to replace Trimble data collection units that were $2000 a piece and really didn't do what we wanted with ease. We use Field Assets in our agricultural setting to gather all sorts of data daily. With incredible ease we export this data out to ArcView and build up our rasters using spacial analyst. The ability to take a picture and a voice note of each allows the manager to really know a lot more about the sample site. Also the ability to pre select points and then deploy someone to gather data at those points if excellent especially for training. The cross hair feature is what allows this and its wonderful with google earth's very up to date information. All in all the app is great. I'm sure with more time there will be more refinements. Please make a powerful version for the iPad where all the data entry and map could be seen at once. Bottom line no matter what, an iPhone, iPad, or an iPod touch is going to be far cheaper then any Trimble or similar GPS unit and that is why this software needs to be taken seriously.

App with a lot of potential
Firstly, thank you to the author for the opportunity to use your application. Your reply email was an unexpected surprise.
Now on to the review:
I am an environmental geologist that spends a considerable amount of time in the field on various assignments. This application has definitely been a great tool to use. Once properly configured (which I would say is pretty easy to accomplish), this application has cut down the amount of equipment I carry and time I spend per job. For example, I've been able to leave both my digial camera and hand-held gps unit back at the office. Whether it be taking pictures/getting coordinates during a bid walk or saving coordinates and depths of soil boring locations, this app definitely works. The ability to also save voice notes is just an added bonus. I've not tried the OTA features, so I can't speak to them. As to what I would add, I would like to see a desktop application or better yet a way to sync with Microsoft Access/Excel so that you may set up your assets on your computer.
