Finally beat it

This was so worth the 5 bucks, it had me occupied for a week straight on the train ride to work. I loved figuring out each character's weakness. The game echoes of Tyson's Punch Out which I last played probably more than 15 years ago, so there's lots of nostalgia value here for an old school gamer like me. Overall the game is very well put together, minus the one small annoyance with the message pop-ups on the 15cent fight.

From the reviews it seems like there's a lot of frustration out there. To beat this game, you just have to get very good at dodging your opponent's attacks - it takes a few attempts to figure out your opponent's patterns and how to dodge them, like in Punch Out. Starting with the Chief, you can start punching only after dodging or you'll get blocked/countered and lose quickly. Once you dodged the right move and your opponent is vulnerable, punch them with pretty much any shots until you see/hear the last punch indicator. Stop punching after that or you'll get countered. A few characters require special moves or very quick dodges to knock out - there are the ones I struggled with the most:

* Grogul - dodge all his attacks and watch for the 4-jab combo, he's vulnerable after that one. You should get him nearly perfect until he drinks the red potion, then you've got a chance of winning the fight with the steroid monster. Blocking a few of the monster's hits and sneaking in a counter hook seems to do the trick.

* King Tub - gains back life, super easy to knock down the first time, just block or dodge his jab and then counterpunch him low. Once you get him dizzy, hit him with the dizzy combo (LLHHLHLH, watch the exclamation mark on the screen to make sure you're doing it right, he'll go down once you complete it successfully.) After that he gets brutal with uppercuts, so I waited till the very end of the 3rd round to knock him down once and win by decision.

* El Diablo - gains back life, you have to hit him with a fully charged (3x) superpunch, it's the only way to knock him down. He's vulnerable after you dodge his side uppercut. Use taunt in between his moves to fill up your superpunch charge faster.

* Tha Shogun - initial strategy same as first encounter, until he turns out the lights. The key is to hit him with a RIGHT hook after dodging his 3-hit combo in the dark. After knocking him down a couple of times, he'll come up with a new combo in the dark which you'll need to dodge, then hit him with a LEFT hook. The hooks turn the lights back on and make him vulnerable for follow up punches.

* Dynavolt - the most brutal character in this game I think, requires quite precise timing/reflexes to beat. Dodge his entire jab combo (it varies between 2-6 in number) and punch him immediately after he stops and you see a volt go across his face. After getting knocked down a couple of times he'll start throwing a swing which will always put you down if it lands - the key is to master dodging to the other side of it, then he's vulnerable.

* Executioner - you should start off blocking, he'll start doing one of two types of double-handed moves, giving you plenty of time to stop blocking and dodge. After this he's vulnerable. Repeat this pattern. Once his life goes down enough, the spikes come out of his gloves. At that point watch his gloves carefully - a glint will tell you where the lethal spiked punch will be coming from. Dodge to the other side of that punch and then he's vulnerable. After you knock him down once it gets a little more challenging as there may be multiple glints before the spiked punch comes - watch for the last glint before dodging. After two knockdowns, his moves will come faster, so you'll need to be faster at dodging them.

My hats off to developers - fantastic job on this game! Updates with new characters would be great, and if 2 player vs could be made possible in this game, it would be absolutely incredible.

A beautiful game, with minor contorl flaws.

Lets face it this game looks amazing. Very "Punch Out" like characters as well as game play. Not really a boxing game but more pattern memorizing, hen using that to your advantage. I thought the controls were a little hard to do at times especially when you have to figure in timing your punches. Still a must for by for the sheer visuals and easy pick up game play!!!! (sorry for crummy spelling)

Bad gameplay over time

The graphics here show the pure power of the iPhone and the game is great for those who love cartoon styled boxing games (would love to see all the boxers to have a beat up look over time like the caveman)...the game play itself jumps to uber hard for the person just looking to have fun. Create some easy, normal, hard, pro levels and the game would be a smash... Right now its just too plain hard.. And this is coming from someone who played countless hours of punchout as a kid on the nintendo and even coin-op
