Description

This is a musical instrument with a unique interface. Utilizing three separate sound sets: Tibetan bowls, crotales, or a dulcimer, it provides a peaceful atmosphere when played. The twelve stones are fashioned from dodecahedrons, which react when touched. A bit more than a vibraphone, and a lot more than wind chimes, this immersive and meditative environment is a must-have for any music lover. An octave-plus-fifth range is available, and each stone is also color-coded, so non-musicians can learn and remember their musical patterns right away - geometry, color, and sound, brought together. Both children and adults can enjoy this engaging tactile experience, with no musical skills required, as the organization of the stones is based upon the principles of chord construction. For you musicians, the Tibetan bowl scale is Mixolydian (F-G-A-Bb-C-D-Eb-F-G-A-Bb-C), the crotales scale is Lydian (F-G-A-B-C-D-E-F-G-A-B-C), and the dulcimer scale is Ionian (or Major: F-G-A-Bb-C-D-E-F-G-A-Bb-C). The application is also multi-touch enabled, to facilitate harmonies as well as melodies.

What's New in Version 1.5.2

Added OS 2.2.1 compatibility, and "gravity awareness" to the stones.

iPhones need Songstones

This is very cool musical instrument application. The interface is super simple to figure out, but also is quite pretty and elegant. The reaction time is perfect, and how the objects change shape when pressed is a great visual. Moreover, the multi-touch feature is ideal for an app like this one. I've experimented with various permutations of 5 note and 6 note chords and it works quite well so long as you strike them precisely (as with any iphone app...or musical instrument for that matter). I'd love to have a feature though to change modes. Mixolydian is a nice mode but there are 7 after all. A record feature would be also cool. How about a multi-track? But seriously folks this app is fun to play with in and of itself.
