Description
Gone Trekking is a location aware safety notification application for outdoor adventurers. The application utilizes the GPS, Google maps, calendar and camera features of the iPhone. Gone Trekking enables the user to record their departure, destination and waypoint information. The application also enables the user to email or post a Twitter message containing their trip details and maps. Spending time in the Great Outdoors just got safer.
Whether you are going hiking, climbing, mountain bike riding or cross country skiing, Gone Trekking is easy to use and may save lives in the event of an emergency. Finding people in remote wilderness areas can be extremely challenging, however the information and maps that can be sent from this application, may make the job of locating missing persons quicker and easier.
With the application users can:
* Record park/reserve, trail, trekking party and safety equipment details.
* Record trip start, trip end and waypoint dates and times using the scrolling calendar.
* Record trip start, trip end and waypoint locations using the GPS, map screen and search function.
* Take a photo of their trekking party.
* Email trip details and maps to family or friends.
* Post a Twitter message containing their trip details.
* Notify their family or friends if they decide to change their dates, times or location details.
* Notify their family or friends when they have returned or reached their destination.

This is nice application. GPS logging works as stated. Twitter update also works as stated. Recommended for outdoor activities.

Awesome app if you are an outdoorsman. GPS works as stated and Twitter update is perfect. You will never get lost. Lot of features. Definitely buy before the price goes up...

This app is just what I needed. I can now keep the hiking club informed on when our family will return from a days outing. This is a great app and very well thought out.

Good start; would like more features.
As a member of Search and Rescue, I understand the importance of accountability and trackability, should the worst come upon someone. I use this app myself and am pleased with the ease of use and formatted text entry.
I would like to see a few more features such as being able to attach multiple photos (as the iPhone is capable of up to 5) and the ability to send the notification to more than one addressee without having to repeat data entry for the same trip.
I would also like to be able to drop pins more easily if the start of my trip is not the location I am sending from. I frequently start my trips in areas with no cell coverage and have to send my notifications from home or somewhere remote from the trailhead. Being able to locate a pinpoint by geographic coordinate or land feature search would speed up the process.
I think this app fills a spot for most people who would rather not invest in an expensive PLB or a Spot (which have their inherent problems). I would recommend it to anyone I know who travels and owns an iPhone or an iPod Touch.
