MGMT guitarist Hank Sullivan signed up the group's fellow touring members James Richardson and Will Berman to join him and Simon O’Connor in Kuroma, a band that could very possibly give their old band a challenge in the catchy guitar-based pop-rock category. Recorded between their various hometowns of Brooklyn and Athens, Ga., their debut album showcases a focused group with joyful and aggressive songs like “20+ Centuries,” “Love Is On the Way,” and “Evan Mann.” Hyperactive guitars and keyboards lend energy (“Case Logic”) and suggest the group are extremely well-schooled in the subtleties of post-punk.
