A Very Sad Statement on the State of Rock/Pop
This is as good as it gets in 2012, given all of the advances in music technology, and all of the incredible mentors/influences of the 60s, 70s, and 80s? Pathetic.
It's amazing to think that past artists lambasted for being too "poppy", such as Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, Billy Joel, Pat Benatar, and others of their generation have more talent in their toenails than this group. What if we compare this collection of 15 to people like Van Morrison, Richard Thompson, Pete Townsend, Linda Rondstadt, Aretha Franklin, Earth Wind & FIre, Eric Clapton, Prince, Springsteen, Ray Charles, or Lennon & McCartney? Can't possibly mention them in the same breath.
No, I'm not some geriatric "hater". Just disappointed. There is some great, current rock music out there (see Black Country Communion, for example), but this crop of artists who the music industry has annointed as Grammy-worthy certainly do not represent the finer traditions of rock & roll or pop.
Well...
Ok some songs on here are grammy worthy (Rolling In The Deep,Paradise,The Cave) but lots of songs aren't...
