Greatest Hits Live (River Plate Stadium, Buenos Aires 3/16/96)

By the '90s, The Ramones were finally acknowledged universally as the ultimate punk rock band, having stuck to their primal approach since 1974 with little variation. With the world finally aware of their greatness, they cruised through concerts worldwide at warp speed, playing harder and faster than ever before. This live album, their third, was recorded at River Plate Stadium in Buenos Aires on March 16, 1996, and features Joey, Johnny, Marky, and C.J. Ramone making fast work of classics like “Blitzkrieg Bop,” “I Wanna Be Sedated,” “Sheena Is a Punk Rocker,” “Rockaway Beach,” and “Beat On the Brat,” alongside lesser-known newer tunes such as “Strength to Endure,” “Cretin Family,” and “The Crusher,” all which come together as one beautiful assault. Two studio recordings—covers of Motorhead’s tribute “R.A.M.O.N.E.S.” and The Dave Clark Five’s “Anyway You Want It”—round out the set. While not as seminal as It’s Alive, Greatest Hits Live is an extremely entertaining race through punk’s most accessible and loved group of all time.
