I See You

I See You

Daevid Allen has been leading Gong through spacy, psychedelic realms on and off since the late '60s. On 2014's I See You, the septuagenarian singer/guitarist's fire remains undimmed, even though he was recovering from cancer treatment at the time of the record's release. The last Gong album, five years earlier, had featured several members of the classic '70s lineup, but here Allen surrounds himself with newer blood, including his son Orlando Allen on drums and guitarist Kavus Torabi of avant-rock cult heroes The Cardiacs. References to Gong's glory days are mixed with hints of everything from postpunk to hip-hop, for a modern feel that still lets Allen's freak flag fly.
