Black Noise was recorded in the Swiss Alps, and you can practically taste the crisp mountain air. The opener, “Lay in a Shimmer,” arrays sparkling chimes above the German producer’s habitual minimal-techno grooves, while the clanking “Abglanz” suggests milk cows grazing in the shadow of a church steeple. It’s all deliciously atmospheric, with resonant synths and clean-lined drum patterns poised tantalizingly between the club and the couch. “Stick to My Side” pushes into more songlike territory, thanks to a spine-tingling performance from Panda Bear.
