Greater Than Us All

Greater Than Us All

Fans of modern worship music will find the Daniel Doss Band’s major label debut Greater Than Us All a Spirit-filled listening experience. The Clarksville, Tennessee-based group applies its considerable experience at music ministry to crafting an album firmly grounded in contemporary rock dynamics and expansive, deeply reverent lyric content. There are traces of MercyMe’s Southern-rooted rock in these tracks, along with the guitar-fueled vigor of the David Crowder Band. Doss acquits himself well as an engaging, slightly raspy vocalist, adding a countrified note to the pop/rock sheen of his band’s sound. “Abba Father,” “Great God” and similar tracks rise to buoyant choruses, carrying a message of praise and redemption. “Love Like Rain” and “I Need You” stand out for their melodic grace, enhanced by piano and strings. The escalating pulse of “Blessed Is the One” adds a note of urgency to the contemplative tone of the album. Doss keeps his lyrics plainspoken and God-centered without losing his individual voice.
