I’m Just Like You: Sly’s Stone Flower 1969-1970

I’m Just Like You chronicles Sly Stone’s short-lived label Stone Flower. Only four singles were released during its two-year run, all written and produced by Stone. Yet this collection is notable because it foreshadows the dark grooves and distorted, lo-fi recording approach that Stone used on his 1971 masterpiece There’s a Riot Goin’ On and 1973’s Fresh. Along with the rare singles, the release contains remastered, previously unissued tracks from the label’s archives, including early takes of “Just Like a Baby” and “Africa,” which would appear in different forms on There’s a Riot Goin’ On. It's a must for Sly fans and those into eccentric, minimalist funk.
