Love Hysteria (Expanded Edition)

Love Hysteria (Expanded Edition)

Bauhaus had been a powerful force on the goth rock scene when the band's singer, Peter Murphy, went solo. His second album, 1988’s Love Hysteria did a good job of defining Murphy’s future legacy. Ex–B Movie keyboardist Paul Statham proved an able and expert cowriter, while a backing band, The Hundred Men, also fell into place. Murphy gave his listeners an idea of what David Bowie might’ve done after his Berlin trilogy if he hadn't gone full-on commercial pop with Let’s Dance. Songs such as “All Night Long” and “His Circle and Hers Meet” are supercharged and benefit from ex-Fall member Simon Rogers’ sleek production. The Iggy Pop cover “Funtime” further illustrates where Murphy’s influences lie. This 2013 expanded edition counts 14 bonus tracks, including demos for seven of the album’s nine songs, along with remixes, single edits, and the song “I’ve Got a Miniature Secret Camera.”
