Hollowed

Hollowed

On Hollowed, Brighton, England's Ital Tek trades his habitual jungle and dubstep rhythms for a more varied—and more contemplative—vision of bass music. The cycling pulses of "Beyond Sight" recall Philip Glass, while "Murmur" fuses hip-hop drums with contemporary classical sounds and "Cobra" suggests a kind of gothic trap. Buzzing synths and processed guitars give the music an unusually physical heft, particularly on the gut-rumbling "Reflection Through Destruction." The organs of "Vesper" and "Vacuum I," meanwhile, offer two contrasting takes on ambient music—both of them equally gorgeous.
