Can Do

Can Do

A handful of '70s hard rockers have recorded excellent modern albums that ignore current fashions and stick to what made them famous. Robin Trower comes to mind, but Canada's Pat Travers has also recently thrown his guitar in the ring. Can Do is as solid as Travers' Makin' Magic, Heat in the Street, and Crash and Burn from his prime. Albums in the new millennium tend to be too long, and at 12 full tracks, Can Do could qualify as a double album in terms of its length. For guitarists, it means there are more guitar solos to study and perform. Regular listeners may want to suss out the material for what the songs can do. "Diamond Girl" could've been a modest hit in the late '70s and an FM-radio mainstay. A cover of Eurythmics' "Here Comes the Rain Again" makes for an intriguing novelty, but originals such as "As Long As I'm with You," "Long Time Gone," "Keep Calm and Carry On," and "Waitin' on the End of Time" show that Travers can succeed on his own.
