iTunes Review

Attack of the Wolf King is Haste the Day’s fifth studio album, but their first with new band members Dave Krysl, Giuseppe Capolupo and Scotty Whelan. Original members Michael Murphy and Stephen Keech both keep the Indiana Christian metalcore quintet’s sound familiar to fans, especially in the opening “Wake Up the Sun,” which tears out of the gate with a ferocity strengthened by soaring guitar harmonies that recall moments of Killers-era Iron Maiden. “Dog Like Vultures” is a live favorite that translates well in a studio setting as Murphy and Keech contrast their respective clean and screamed vocals with soaring melodies. “The Quiet, Deadly Ticking” explodes like a roadside bomb, throwing jagged pieces of cacophonous shrapnel before the chorus shifts gears and drives straight into a giant wall of palatable melody. And “Travesty” is all kinds of catchy. From its infectious opening lead to more Maidenesque harmonics in the verse and a contagious chorus of soaring screamo rhapsodizing, it’s nearly impossible to walk away from this one without it sticking in your head.

Get over it!

Everyone that's complaining about Jimmy Ryan get over it! He was an amazing lead for HTD, but he left the band and that is nobodies fault! Don't bash the music just cause it's not the way you want it to be. Some people like it, whereas original fans think it's too soft and not hard enough. Hey, there's millions of bands out there that have hard vocals that can fill the void. That's the beauty of music! Quit complaining about Jimmy being gone....HE'S NOT COMING BACK!! Nobody wants a review of how this album or Dreamer relates to Burning Bridges or When Everything Falls! It has no comparison because Stephen is the lead now and it's a different HTD. I agree that maybe they should change their name, since most of the original members left, but seriously stop bashing the albums because they're not like the first albums. I personally like the first two albums the most of all of them, but this new stuff isn't bad at all. Nobody is saying these albums are better than the first two. If you don't like the album then don't review it and go write a good review for the first two albums!

Aside from that, if you like Dreamer then get this album! Yes, it's not similar to the first two albums, but it's a great album. It's an improvement from Dreamer, which I think was a great album.

Very well done

This cd is solid at its core. Enough diversity to keep things interesting without steering too far from what makes Haste the Day Haste the Day. If you like older Haste the Day (with Jimmy) then do not look for this cd to wow you by any means. However, Keech does an excellent job leading a band into their own sound... and it is a sound that is well pleasing to the ears. You cannot compare a band that has changed members and moved forward to the sound of the past. Get on board and move forward with them. Support Haste the Day for who they are...not who they once were. Excellent cd. No dissapointment here. Solid guitars....raging drums....and diverse vocals. If you liked Dreamer then this cd is a step above.

The Indianapolis-based Christian metalcore band Haste the Day formed in 2001.
