Customer Reviews
eh, it's passible
After hearing both the Fisk and Yamashita recordings one is left to beg the question why another recording should be attempted. Indeed that would be a good question and still is after hearing Korhonen's attempt to record it. It's rather pedestrian pace and tone lacks the clarity and passion of the other two and the mic they gave him to cough into is distracting. Much as I tried I could not get myself to like this recording. Perhaps you'll have better luck then I. -Bz
Heavy Breathing
the recording has his heavy breathing, this is very distracting
Bach Playing Abundant in Color
I happen to love these recordings. Unlike others, I find Korhonen's tone production ingratiating, and full of a range of colors. Other guitarists perform with perhaps a more "liquid" round sort of tone, but I find I rather prefer Korhonen's touch. I speculate that in part the tone arises from the particular color of his guitar, and wonder whether he's using less nail than most (can't tell from the cover photo). Anyway, it's quite to my taste and I don't find his tone hard or dry, as some listeners have. What draws me in to his playing is the variety of color he gets, and the changes in color I find wonderfully expressive and full of interest. I like the way he shapes and characterizes phrases, brings out certain lines and voices. So I find these recordings eminently musical. At least for the moment, these are my favorite recordings of this music transcribed for guitar.
