The Bulletboys and their brand of groove-heavy pop-metal had a star-turning moment on radio and MTV in the late ’80s and early ’90s. They left enough of a footprint to maintain a stateside cult following. Here, they offer up different versions of their big hit (“Smooth Up in Ya”) and the contenders (“THC Groove,” “Hard as Rock”), and they add a plethora of surprisingly great covers. You’ll likely never find another album that sees a hard rock Tom Waits cover (the sturdy “Hang on St. Christopher”) sidle up to one by Ted Nugent (“Stranglehold”). The Bulletboys' unironic take of Journey’s “Faithfully” is worth the price alone.
