Rise Up

Rise Up

Since releasing his seminal 1996 debut So Many Things at the tender age of 20, Anthony B has become one of the foremost practitioners of old-fashioned socially conscious roots reggae of the brand pioneered by icons like Earl Zero, Burning Spear, and Bob Marley. Though he has occasionally made remarkable forays into the frantic, digitized soundscapes of Dancehall he has, for the most part remained true to the sonic textures and thematic concerns of vintage roots, even going so far as to collaborate with many of the Jamaican studio players who defined the sound of roots in the ‘70s. Since his debut Anthony B has released a remarkably consistent string of albums at a breakneck pace, often completing as many as three full-lengths in a single year. Rise Up is Anthony B’s fourteenth official full-length, and boasts 14 remarkably impassioned performances, including the single “Better Haffi Come” and the standout “Enter the Kingdom of Zion” which finds Anthony trading verses with the legendary Horace Andy over a retooled version of Black Uhuru’s venerable “Darkness” rhythm.
