Night Sessions

Night Sessions

As a musical associate of Sting starting in 1999, trumpeter Chris Botti found a kindred spirit in keyboardist/producer and fellow band member Mark “Kipper” Eldridge. The pair took 10 weeks off between legs of a Sting tour to cowrite and record Night Sessions, which Kipper produced. “Lisa” opens Botti's fourth studio effort with a relaxed spaciousness that characterizes much of the album. “Chill” is an Ibiza-inspired atmospheric subset of the contemporary instrumental genre. Written by Sting with vocals by singer/songwriter Shawn Colvin, the evocative “All Would Envy” empathetically tells the story of a kept woman. The lovely “Easter Parade,” which closes Night Sessions, is a cover of a track from The Blue Nile's 1984 debut album, one of Botti’s aesthetic touchstones.
