Singer/songwriter Paul Brill wears a variety of hats; he scores films, provides theme music for NPR, and works with a who's-who in the music biz, including U2. His own music is an eclectic, peppy mix that's perfectly summarized by the album's title. "I miss the comfort of a worried, troubled life," he admits on the rambunctiously happy "Sunny Guy" (which appears here twice!). From there he acclimates to the good life with the ease of Jack Johnson, whose Hawaiian paradise he seems to be crashing on "The Royal Oui." There's a spirited big-band-gone-awry groove to "How High the Fishes," a mellow Caribbean wind blowing through "S'Wonderful," and an early-'70s-meets-the-'00s dance-party feel to "Kissing Cousins," complete with bass drum beats designed to blow a speaker or two. Brill's apparently prepping everyone for another fine summer—or else he, like The Beach Boys, believes in the power of the Endless Summer.
