Echo of Love

Echo of Love

An Epic, No Less combines the fist-raising dynamics of an arena-rock band with the rippling beats of an electronica unit. On Echo of Love, the St. Louis quintet harnesses these elements in the service of a fervent, vertically directed Christian message. Lead singer/keyboardist Todd Larson defines the group’s appeal with his wide-eyed, slightly breathless vocals. Guitarist Neil Endicott (who also plays with the pop-rock combo Run Kid Run) adds needed instrumental heft to the band’s percolating grooves, while Britney Stutz’s violin work brings classical shadings to the tracks. An Epic, No Less goes for a widescreen sound on “We Need You” and “Mercy Light,” songs that celebrate God’s presence with fervor. “One Word” and the title number are ebullient tunes inviting comparisons to Owl City’s recent releases, while “Bright White Light” combines a swaying rhythm with a dramatically escalating arrangement. If there’s a key track here, it’s “Come to the Cross,” a ringing altar call that’s modern in feel and timeless in content.
