Lucky Strikes!

Lucky Strikes!

Peterson began to get a grip on the fundamentals of songwriting and fronting a band with this 1983 release, his third solo album. He and bassist Bob Greenlee wrote or co-wrote all nine tunes, which fall into the usual categories of shuffles ("Can't Get No Loving on the Telephone"), up-tempo boogies ("Lucky Strikes"), and slow grinds (the guitar workout "She Spread Her Wings"). It would take the guitarist/organist/singer a few more years to choose more capable sidemen, and another two decades to develop his own commanding style, but his chops and knack for stretching the syllables of his lyrics are already intact on this fairly generic set of Chicago blues.
