This Is Not a Dick & Rarities

Coming together at Massachusetts' Hampshire College (a no-grades school for the children of rich hippies), Supreme Dicks were a mainstay of local shows and parties during the late '80s and early '90s. With an ever-evolving lineup that included Jon Shere, Jim Spring, Danny Oxenberg, and Steve Shevel, they released three official albums (The Unexamined Life, Working Man's Dick, and The Emotional Plague) on labels like Homestead and Freek, as well as an assortment of small-run, hyper-rare 7-inches and compilations. Highly experimental but still guitar-based, Supreme Dicks are certainly way too weird for commercial radio but should be eagerly embraced by fans of artists like Sun City Girls, Dead C, Butthole Surfers, and Eric Gaffney. This album combines the 1996 EP This Is Not a Dick with several impossible-to-find singles; highlights include "Invasion from Mars," "Summertime (Childhood's Impossible Now)," and "Careful with That Axe, Steve."
