The Ride

The Ride

On 2004’s The Ride, Los Lobos’ 30th anniversary album, the East L.A. band track their signature Chicano rock and Latin-music regionalism but also broaden their horizons with versatile, star-studded collaborations. Their guests are formidable, influential powerhouses, including alt-rock mavericks Café Tacvba, who help deliver a riveting, tropical-tinged wake-up call on “La Venganza de los Pelados.” They then time-travel to vintage-y Afro-Cuban barrios alongside Tom Waits and Martha Gonzalez ("Kitate"); “Ya Se Va” features a beguiling cameo from salsa mastermind Rubén Blades and his smoldering vocals.
