Bruises & Butterflies

Bruises & Butterflies

Bruises & Butterflies was forged in the fires of a smoldering divorce, though good music has always been in Elisa Randazzo’s life. The daughter of tunesmiths Teddy Randazzo and Victoria Pike (who wrote “Goin’ Out Of My Head,” “It’s Gonna Take A Miracle” and “Hurt So Bad”), Elisa was a one-time singer and violinist for the Red Krayola before co-founding Fairechild, a short-lived duo with ex husband Josh Schwartz of Beachwood Sparks — the muse of many songs here, most notably “Remember May,” a lilting lament of Los Angelino canyon-folk that tastefully contrasts the classic tones of an old Joni Mitchell record with the fresh bloom of a Vetiver song. Elisa’s love for British folk found her working with genre cult-icon Bridget St. John, who contributes vocals and songwriting on the bewitching “He Faded” and the bookending “Goodbye,” a gorgeous serenade that sounds truly timeless. Other guest musicians like pedal steel luminary Joe Goldmark, Shayde Sartin of the Fresh & Onlys and the Mother Hips’ rhythms section help flesh out twangy charmers like “Colors” and “Darkerlands.”
