Although guitarist Bryan Rahija left Bombadil, he still adds guitar and ukulele as a guest here, while the remaining trio—Daniel Michalak, James Phillips, and Stuart Robinson—continue with their multi-instrumental approach. Few tunes here are as sad and beautiful as the two piano ballads, “Sunny December” and the Beach Boys–like “I Can’t Believe in Myself and Love You Too.” Jovial, witty touches keep Hold On light and airy. “Rhapsody in Black and White” lightly shocks and strongly amuses with its take on "Ebony & Ivory"–style race relations. (Robinson announced his departure upon this album’s release.)
