Rich Kid Blues

Rich Kid Blues

Recorded in 1971 but unreleased until 1985, this remarkable sleeper finds Faithfull delivering dark, poignant cover versions while "probably on the edge of death" (her words) thanks to a heroin habit. Introducing her lower voice alongside a laidback band, Faithfull discovers dire resonances in three Bob Dylan classics (especially "It's All Over Now Baby Blue"); waxes country-funereal in "Long Black Veil"; and sounds right at home with Sandy Denny's twisted "Crazy Lady Blues."
