In case there was any lingering confusion about 5 Seconds of Summer's influences – classic '90s pop-punk, not boy bands – the Australian quartet drives the point home with a cover of Green Day's "American Idiot," dropping some wild drum and bass solos in to demonstrate their chops. It's the highlight of this EP, which marks the ascendance of single "Amnesia," a monster ballad from the band's debut, the poignancy of which can be heard in the screams of thousands of young women during the live version of the track included here. New song "Daylight" is a canny mix of driving emo-pop and anthemic rock, proving these guys aren't running out of either any time soon.
