New York Before the War

Jesse Malin has the perfect band for his songs; they’re called D Generation. But like many singers, when it came time to get serious, Malin lined up an ace studio band and enough special guests to make you wonder if a "solo" album wasn’t just an excuse to hang out with folks like Alejandro Escovedo, Wayne Kramer, and Peter Buck. “The Dreamers” begins slow and introspective, but it’s the uptempo material that compels further listening. Escovedo brings “Turn Up the Mains” to life with a raging guitar that could’ve been by Malin’s band partner, Danny Sage. “Oh Sheena” sounds like the iconic punk rocker finally grew up.
