As the daughters of '60s pop-rock royalty, the members of Wilson Phillips offer a breezy, lightweight take on songs their parents in The Beach Boys and The Mamas & The Papas made famous. Wilson Phillips' harmonies are note-perfect, and the smoothness of their attack turns their tracks into modern easy listening, with a touch of brawn in the beats. The production deliberately softens the edges of their vocals to the point where it sounds like a rich, creamy mix. It's impossible to fault the material, beyond perhaps being a tad too familiar for those well-versed in classic rock and pop radio. Fact is, songs like "California Dreamin'," "Wouldn't It Be Nice," "Monday Monday," "God Only Knows," and "Good Vibrations" are beautiful, top-notch pop songs that remain fresh despite the passing of decades. While surely fans would love to hear new material, the melody of "Don't Worry Baby" insists that you accept beauty wherever you find it.
