As an album, it's an interesting and mild take on his diverse catalog, with plenty of twang to go around. Caitlin Rose takes a delicate read on the resignation and regret lurking within "Lately I've Let Things Slide." Robert Ellis adds a Bakersfield twist to "All Men Are Liars." Amanda Shires slows and strips down "I Love the Sound of Breaking Glass" in a way no one could have predicted. Jeff the Brotherhood kicks up the dust for a frenetic take on "Marie Provost." Hayes Carll evokes what it might have sounded like had Townes Van Zandt attempted "(I'm Gonna Start) Living Again If It Kills Me." Chatham County Line turns in a banjo-and-fiddle version of "Heart of the City," while Griffin House turns "Cracking Up" into a noir-scape. Ron Sexsmith takes on "Where Is My Everything?" with his acoustic guitar and unadorned voice for a simple, pleasurable interpretation.
