Hark

Hark

Hailing from Orange County, NY, The Doppelgangaz (EP and Matter Ov Fact) have been putting out a unique blend of bugged-out, Golden Ear–influenced hip-hop for about five years now. After impressing listeners (especially those overseas) with quality albums like The Ghastly Duo and 2012: The New Beginning, The Doppelgangaz return with Hark, featuring a dozen tracks blending obscure samples, well-worn breakbeats, and left-field wordplay heavy. (There are rhymes about bursitis, cirrhosis, warts, and irritable bowel syndrome, among other uncomfortable maladies.) Despite the unorthodox subject matter, The Doppelgangaz' songs are surprisingly catchy, backed by moody-yet-funky soundscapes that sound like nothing else out there today. Fans of oddball rappers (think Kool Keith, MF DOOM, Gravediggaz) should definitely be feeling this. Check out "Hark Back," "Taking Them Pills," and "Sun Shine."
