Getback (Instrumentals)

Getback (Instrumentals)

Hailing from North Carolina, Little Brother came into the game amid a ton of hype. Their 2003 debut album, The Listening, was universally acclaimed by just about everybody who heard it, which propelled them from college students to legit indie rap stars practically overnight. Phonte and Big Pooh's down-to-earth rhymes and 9th Wonder's classic-minded beatwork struck a chord, and they were immediately among the underground's best-known groups. Released in 2007, Get Back is their third album and first since 9th's departure. Though some fans were initially skeptical, the producers who step in to fill the void (Illmind, Khrysis, Mr. Porter, Nottz, and Zo!) do a commendable job, providing an ear-tickling collection of supple soul loops, deceptively simple drums, and trunk-rattling basslines. This instrumental version lets the beats shine on their own, with standouts such as "After the Party," "Breakin My Heart," "Step It Up," and "When Everything Is New."
