Stereo Rodeo is Rusted Root’s first studio album since 2002’s Welcome to My Party and it's chock-full of fun, insightful, catchy, well-crafted songs. “Dance In the Middle” opens with a driving, semi-sinister voodoo vibe before segueing into Latin-tinged take on “Suspicious Minds” — turning an Elvis Presley hit into a rootsy tune that boasts a the kind of saxophone solo that could turn the minds of people who hate saxophone solos. Michael Glabicki’s powerful voice takes control of “Weary Bones,” a poetic ballad that could have only been written by someone who honestly understands the aches and trials of playing in a hard touring band. Shifting gears into the kind of wah-wah-laden funk rock the band are known for, “Bad Son” muses on the problems of the Dubya administration with empathetic lyrics about how his childhood insecurities helped run the country. The title track is so mature that it almost sounds like Radiohead.
