Gangsta Memorial

Gangsta Memorial

Despite his role as the butt of Dre and Snoop's jokes on The Chronic, Eazy-E is without question one of the most important pioneers in rap music, bringing together N.W.A, founding Ruthless Records, and introducing gangsta rap to the world. Unfortunately, in death, he does not get the eternal respect directed towards Tupac and Biggie (neither of whom would have had careers without Eazy creating that lane), perhaps because he died of AIDS instead of senseless gun violence. Gangsta Memorial Edition features all of Eazy's signature hits, drawing primarily on his classic first solo album Eazy-Duz-It as well as several gems from the N.W.A discography. Produced mostly by Dr. Dre in his prime, these include the minimalist funk of proto-gangsta jams "Boyz-N-The-Hood" and "8 Ball," the party anthem "We Want Eazy," cinematic robbery caper "Nobody Move," and the Bootsy Collins redux "I'd Rather F**k You." The last few tracks from later in his career are less essential, but overall this is an excellent collection documenting one of the most unique and charismatic MCs to ever touch a microphone.
