It’s futile to resist the urge to move when this boundlessly energetic compilation is playing. Zapateando en el Norte revitalises vintage Mexican folk rhythms for a new generation of dancers. The bands unfurl colourful ribbons of accordion, strum frenzied-but-joyful guitars, and inspire boot-stomping excitement with their percolating drums. But despite the unrelenting pace, there’s also surprising variety here, ranging from the lilting beauty of “El Baile del Wasawiri” by La Fiera de Ojinaga to the sing-along bubbliness of “El Gorro de Socorro” by Atrevidos de Chihuahua.
