Let Me In

Let Me In

Back in the early ‘70s, there were plenty of groups who knew how to turn their amplifiers up and let the distorted grind do the talking. But Youngtown, Ohio’s Jim Gustafson knew a bit more about how to turn those Black Sabbath-like guitar riffs into something crazier. Recorded in 1972 (and bonus material from 1973) Let Me In is a savage piece of missing rock history. “Mr. Destroyer,” with its wah-wah guitar and muted moans, immediately belongs in the company of Sabbath, the Stooges and Grand Funk Railroad. Forever a support act for bands like ZZ Top and Canned Heat, Poobah deserved better. This reissue includes an additional album of bonus material. Serious rock music fans, especially fans of Stoner Rock, should find a ballad like “Enjoy What You Have” and uncompromising rockers such as “Live to Work” and “Bowleen” (also here in a “radio edit”) to be sufficient evidence that there is yet another great band hiding in plain sight.
