I need it like i need my happy pillz!
Liiiiifffee goeessss on, and on and on....... Wait, what? Don't know what I'm singing? Get ready for your bitchsmack back into reality, my friend, cause you are missin out. But don't worry you can redeem yourself. Zama Para is a dose of awesome, and a dose of awesome is just what you need to get over the embarrassment of being the mo who isn't singing along with me to Zama Para's "Life Goes On." My husband had to drag me out of the house to see them the first time, I was not up for seeing yet ANOTHER new band. Once there I recieved my bitchslap into reality...Zama Para rox my sox! This band has major MUCHNESS in a sea of so much music. They have a jazzy soul set to alternative rock and a heart of blues with an upbeat attitude. I was in need of something original and Zama Para fit the bill. Rock it barefoot Randy!
One genre can not define them
Drawing from a wide range of musical influences and diverse backgrounds, Zama Para has created a sound of their own that no one genre can define.
Best described as a “singer/songwriter” band with touches of Rock, Folk and Jazz with some Reggae thrown in to keep things interesting.
Consider these four tracks as an appetizer to the feast of musicality and creativity that will be coming from this very talented New Orleans band in the near future. Stay tuned for more.
Traditional Musical Gumbo
Traditional, guitar-based, introspective singer-songwriter tunes are a staple of modern pop rock. Zama Para, a five member outfit based in New Orleans, shakes this tried-and-true formula up considerably by adding a second singer-songwriter (Cal Castillon, complimenting initially-solo founder Randy Perrone) and, most notably, saxophone. Yes, a sax. Norwegian-born Ole Oddlokken subtly accents the tracks on Zama Para's self-titled EP (and even gets a chance to display his chops on a nice solo break during standout cut "Moonlight"). Venezuelan drummer Fernando Puig and veteran Big Easy bassist Mike Massel make for a confident rhythm section which provides a sturdy backbone for the EP's more restrained cuts, loping, amenable "Edge of the World" and the slightly perkier "Life Goes On." "The Storm" nicely exhibits the band's interplay thanks to welcome tempo shifts. With Zama Para you get the familiar, emotively personal singer-songwriter convention with a twist. It's a case where more cooks in the musical kitchen truly make for a richer, more satisfying listening experience.
