So many of our best blues-rock guitar talents left us too soon: Duane Allman, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Danny Gatton. And you can add Eddie Hinton's name to that list without reservation. While he may not be as widely recognized as the others, the Jacksonville, Florida native graced a number of classic soul and blues sessions for artists including Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, and Elvis Presley. Hinton's own blue-eyed soul, of which Letters from Mississippi is his best, echoes the rich, soulful sounds of the artists he accompanied, with deep, southern-fried guitar lines and ardent, big-hearted vocals.
