MF Computer (Radiohead’s OK Computer Reimagined)

Mother Falcon is an orchestral-indie band from Austin, Texas, that features 15 to 20 members, many of whom are multi-instrumentalists. Radiohead, of course, are a MoMA-approved British art-rock band, whose OK Computer has been critically hailed as one of the most important albums of the past 25 years. It remains a controversial work that exceeded the expectations of its creators, who assumed they were writing pop songs with a modest sense of adventure. Mother Falcon had been performing their interpretation of OK Computer in concert for months, with videos appearing on YouTube showing highlights. This full-length album should fascinate Radiohead fans as well as listeners who love orchestral arrangements (cellos, violins, horns, pianos, bassoon, and a glockenspiel) and unorthodox musical interpretations. “Subterranean Homesick Alien” starts jazz-like before it shifts to a blend of mellow world beat and folk. “Karma Police” retains its haunting sense of unease. “Climbing Up the Walls” is an aching, tortured performance. “No Surprises” is a touch smooth and soulful. “Lucky” centers on folk-like harmonies. There are many surprises here for fans of all backgrounds.
