Greatest Features

Greatest Features focuses almost solely on Scarface’s hometown collaborations, most of which involve the extended family of Rap-A-Lot, the legendary label that launched Face’s career. Since many of these songs were conceived and released on Scarface solo albums, this is not strictly a “features” collection, but it does show the chemistry Face has generated with a multitude of partners. The mischievous singer Devin the Dude seems like an unlikely foil, but the pair have made several rap classics, three of which are included here. “Get Out” represents Face’s influence on the Roc-A-Fella camp, and shows why he is one of the few Southern MCs who has always been respected in New York. Too $hort and Ice Cube have long been a natural extension of the Geto Boys brotherhood, but the best tracks are songs by lesser known Rap-A-Lot acts like the 5th Ward Boyz and the Convicts. Even though they never became famous these early Houston groups had as much force as the Geto Boys, and Face never hesitated to rejuvenate their efforts.
