Pterodactyl blend equal parts nostalgia and innovation to birth a familiar sound while bringing something new to the party, infusing a fresh chaos into their arrangements and songcraft. "Share the Shade" reveals an extraordinary drummer in Matt Marlin, whose controlled anarchy sounds immediately inspired by Oneida's Kid Millions. The allocated bursts of guitar noise in "First Daze" dances drunkenly around Marlin's stop-start rhythms as Joe Kremer and Jesse Hodges make complicated, high-tonal, vocal harmonies sound flowing and effortless. Contrarily, the hushed and simpler executed vocal inflections on "December" serve the purpose of approximating another instrument as the muted guitar staccatos unleash the more salient melodies, taking on the upfront singing duties — as if the guitars and singing switched places for a song. The instrumental "Easy Pieces" layers lush soundscapes before colliding them so hard that sonic sparks fly before tapering off into languid exhaustion. "One With Everyone" closes with turbulent temper tantrums of noise that contrast wonderfully with lightly lilting vocals.
