Nuttin' but Love

Nuttin' but Love

After straddling hip-hop, R&B, and dance music for several years, Heavy D found the perfect balance of his talents on 1994’s Nuttin’ but Love. “Sex Wit You,” “This Is Your Night,” and “Nuttin’ but Love” hit upon a seamless and supple mixture of rap and R&B that was simultaneously of the moment and timeless. These songs presaged the opulent aesthetic that would soon dominate hip-hop with the rise of The Notorious B.I.G. and Jay-Z. After studying “Got Me Waiting,” “Something Goin’ On,” and “Move On,” it’s impossible not to see Heavy D as Biggie’s predecessor and prototype.
