Struttin'

Struttin'

Struttin, the third Meters album, boasts some of their most aggressive music. The four players seem at times to be literally bouncing off one another in pursuit of their mathematical funk. The album's sort-of title track, "Chicken Strut," put the down-home chant of "Look-Ka Py Py" in the shade with an unholy crowing and squawking. "Liver Splash" and "Go for Yourself" brought equally tough grooves to the table. At the same time, the band was stretching itself, offering straight Art Neville vocals on the recent Glen Campbell hit "Wichita Lineman" and the mid-tempo soul ballad "Darling Darling Darling." This (mostly instrumental) classic of the early funk era is heard in this edition with two bonus tracks, "Funky Meters' Soul" and "Meter Strut."
