Anthology (Remastered)

This essential overview collection (for those getting to know the band) was originally released in 1995, and it covered a lot of ground, and then some: two discs worth that includes the full 20+ minutes of the car wreck-funk of ""Yoo Doo Right"" from the band's first mind-bending album in 1969, Monster Movie. The first 12 tracks comprise another compilation called Cannibalism I, released originally in 1990, which showcases the band's earliest, and best, work. The other 17 songs are from their remaining oeuvre, starting with the pulsating, disjointed ""Uphill,""recorded in the late '60s but not released until 1981 on the album, Delay. From there, you can easily see the creative turns they took over the years, dabbling in world beat, prog-jazz, and even disco (they actually charted in the UK with ""I Want More""in 1976), while still working as engineers of sound, tinkering with rhythm, propulsion, and primal deconstructivism. It all comes to a sad end with tracks from their ""reunion"" album of 1989, Rite Time. The final track here, ""Last Night Sleep,"" is from the soundtrack for the Wim Wenders film, ""Until the End of the World"" (1991).
