Sam Genders is a former member of experimental folkies Tunng, and here he perfects his version of indie-electronica-folk as Diagrams. The second Diagrams album, Chromatics, is warm and inviting. “Gentle Morning Song” lives up to its title, while slow, contemplative tunes like “You Can Talk to Me” and “Shapes” capture the perfect balance between traditional singer/songwriter melodies and enhanced atmospheric electronics. Together, they make a potentially cold future feel comforting. Producer Leo Abrahams enlists backing vocals from Smoke Fairies and string and brass arrangements from Danyal Dhondy and Sam Ewens to complete the effect.
