Parsnip Snips

Parsnip Snips

This iconoclastic singer-songwriter loves to play — with words, with music, and with the way the two interact. His music itself is a cagey, hard-to-pin-down amalgam of American styles — all manner of folk, blues and rock are tumbled together. He has a great range, and is clearly eminently knowledgeable about many genres, but the way he mixes and matches seems to be done with the ease of a drunken slacker. This 1995 release collects old homemade recordings, a manner of recording that the laid-back troubadour excels at. Highlights include the Jimmy Rogers-ish warble "Goin' to Polynesia," several delightful solo guitar instrumentals, and the beautiful male-female country-pop duet ""The Time Is Right."
