For 2007’s Give Me Your Soul…Please King Diamond drew from the news of the world for his band's latest elaborate narrative. Inspired by recurring news reports of parents who kill their children and then commit suicide, King illustrated a tale of a brother and sister killed by their father but barred from entering heaven because the brother was mistakenly believed to have committed suicide. “Give Me Your Soul” is one of the album’s strongest tracks, in which the ghost siblings visit the narrator with the intention of stealing his soul so that the brother can enter heaven. The narrative is more eerie and psychological than on King Diamond's past albums. Like the classic King Diamond concept records, it keeps listeners engaged with the shifting story by employing a variety of rhythmic and melodic fluctuations. The unheralded stars of the album are guitarists Andy LaRocque and Mike Wead. Their reciprocal chemistry lights up “The Cellar,” “The Girl in the Bloody Dress,” and the aforementioned title song. After more than 20 years, this album proved that King Diamond’s conviction in dark forces has kept the veteran band young at heart.
