Little Drummer Boy - Live

Little Drummer Boy - Live

Released in 2006, Little Drummer Boy—Live was initially known for featuring two previously unreleased songs—"Unlit Hallway" and "Moorestown"—that were later recorded with Sun Kil Moon for the 2008 album April. The remaining songs here were taken from throughout Mark Kozelek's career with Red House Painters and Sun Kil Moon. All are performed solo acoustic, with occasional help from longtime guitarist Phil Carney. These recordings are from shows between 2003 and 2006 in venues such as the Grey Eagle in Asheville, N.C.; the Bowery Ballroom in New York City; the First Unitarian Church in Philadelphia; and The Stenhammarsalen in Gothenburg, Sweden. Many of the tunes are given altered arrangements, some more radical than others. Several Modest Mouse songs ("Trucker's Atlas," "Four Fingered Fisherman," "Tiny Cities") are reinterpreted, but the clear draw remains Kozelek's own "Cruiser," "Katy Song," "Duk Koo Kim," "Carry Me Ohio," "Void," and "Down Colorful Hill."
