iTunes Review

Roaring back on a new label with a retooled sound, Switchfoot turns Hello Hurricane into a triumphant statement of purpose. It's not that the album is free from fear and doubt — lead singer/songwriter Jon Foreman grapples with a host of inner afflictions in these tracks. But the strength of Hello Hurricane comes from its sense of spiritual victory in the face of overwhelming odds, aided by some of the brawniest rock the band has laid down since its inception. Distorted guitars and clattering rhythms lend urgency to “Needle and Haystack Life,” “The Sound (John M. Perkins’ Blues),” and “Bullet Soul.” Foreman takes on a desperate edge in tracks like the galvanizing title song, snatching joy from impending disaster. Emotional breakdown — and the promise of spiritual rebirth — is a reoccurring theme, captured with fevered eloquence in “Free” and “Mess of Me.” In contrast, “Your Love Is a Song” and “Enough to Let Me Go” are more contemplative visions of man’s relationship with God. “Always,” a delicately wrought expression of love between parent and child, may be the album’s most affecting moment.

long time fan... this album has my favorite songs

I have only been listening to this album for about a week, but already it has replaced some of fave switchfoot oldies. This album is incredible, and each song is fantastical and awe-inspiring and thought provoking. I love switchfoot, and I thank them for this musical masterpiece.

These songs make me want to cry. (period)

It is so rare that I find a body of music that affect me this completely and surprises me with clever nuances discovered in the 5th, 10th, and 50th listens. Foreman is one of the hardest working musicians out there and his solo work in other projects has done much to increase his ability to compose music and turn catchy phrases.

Usually when I listen to an album I can find the cracks pretty quickly. The weak songs stand out and quickly fade from my playlists while the better songs hang around longer. I've now been through this albums dozens of times and I am constantly finding new things to like...a pretty rare feat these days. I appreciate how Switchfoot has not only written 12 gorgeous songs, but they have crafted and edited them neatly with just the right amount layers and effects.

There are few albums that have felt this complete to my ears. But, I would put this album up with other standouts that still rotate heavily through my iPod, such as:

"Achtung Baby" - U2
"Drawing Black Lines" - Project 86
"Constellations" - August Burns Red
"Mute Math" - Mute Math
"Mercury" - The Prayer Chain
"Riot" - Paramore
"The Magic Hour" - Wynton Marsalis
"In Rainbows" - Radiohead

Yes, it is THAT good. Every track is deep and worthy of re-listening. Thank you Switchfoot for all you do!! Keep rockin'!!!
